Boot Camp for Couples: Class description and fees

Level 1: Basic Training

These classes are geared for couples who are in a new relationship, ready to take it to the next level or a refresher for those who are in longer term relationships.

Prior to the class start date, you’ll meet privately with Dr. Amy to discuss the current strengths and weaknesses in your relationship. This way, she’ll make sure to address your personal concerns during the group boot camp classes.

Week 1: Basic Skills

Communication is key. When you first meet, there’s so much to say that you find yourselves chatting until the wee hours in the morning. As time goes by, resentment, dissatisfaction, stress, and life in general turns your conversation into gripe sessions or an empty exchange of information. Listening skills are also included.

Week 2: Strengthen your Voice.

Even if you can finish each other’s sentences, your partner can’t read your mind. Learn how to speak up when something bothers you, ask for what you want and don’t want, and be a partner with equal say.

Week 3: Pucker Up

Ahh… the kiss. What first brought you together and lit the spark is often the first to go. Learn ways to keep the spark alive, bring passion to greater heights, play, explore, and pleasure your partner.

Week 4: Muscle through the Tough Times

Do the same issues keep cropping up and keep you spinning in circles? It’s your ability to work through these situations rather than the issues that really counts. Couples will have the opportunity to work on one of those issues and gain the skills for finding a resolution.

At the end of the training, couples will have a final coaching session with Dr. Amy where they’ll receive a progress report and take home exercises to keep their relationship in tip top shape.

Level 1: Basic Training includes two hours ($425) of private consultation and four weeks of two hours ($800) of Boot Camp. Total: 10 hours. If purchased separately, cost is $1,225. Sign up for Session A or B for only $1,025.

Level 2: Interval Training

These classes are geared for couples in a committed relationship who are looking for ways to keep their relationship from taking a back seat to all their other obligations like working, maintaining a household, dealing with family matters, juggling a gazillion activities, maintaining one’s health, saving for retirement, raising children, and so on.

Often, couples settle into the frame of mind that once life calms down and/or the kids are out of the house, it’s time to retire, then it will be their time. This is a big mistake. If a relationship isn’t nourished, cherished, and tended to, it will die.

Prior to the class start date, you’ll meet privately with Dr. Amy to discuss the current strengths and weaknesses in your relationship. This way, she’ll make sure to address your personal concerns during the group boot camp classes.

Week 1: Tag Team

Running and maintaining a household is no easy task. Add children and/or aging parents to the mix and the divvying up of responsibilities gets harder. Learn how to say no, how to relax and have fun together, and how to pass the baton.

Week 2: Jumping through Hoops

Everyone wants a piece of you! Illness, aging parents, kid-related stuff, financial setbacks, and so on, smack you in the face.  Learn how to band together instead of raising the bar and the importance of making your partner your priority without losing your sense of individuality.

Week 3: Archery

Be wary of the couple who brags they never fight. Stress, resentment, and frustration can turn every day conversations into a sparring match. Shooting arrows and bickering happens when couples avoid talking about what is really bothering them. Learn ways to do this without injuring yourself or your partner.

Week 4: Running the Marathon

You’re nearing the finish line. But you’ve been so busy running around that your relationship is in last place. Your bed has turned into a place to collapse into instead of a place to have fun. The person sleeping next to you feels like a stranger. Learn ways to turn yourself and your partner back into lovers instead of roommates.

At the end of the training, couples will have a final coaching session with Dr. Amy where they’ll receive a progress report and take home exercises to keep their relationship in tip top shape.

Interval Training includes two hours ($425) of private consultation and four weeks of two hours ($800) of Boot Camp. Total: 10 hours. If purchased separately, cost is $1,225. Sign up for Session A or B for only $1,025.

Level 3: Intensive Training

Do you love each other but secretly wish you were still in love? This accelerated Boot Camp is for couples who want to bring their relationship to new heights or explore whether or not their relationship can be saved. Some may be facing thoughts or actual incidents of cheating; others have let their relationship slide and thought they could just pick it up at a later time or find themselves feeling awkward and uncertain about their future together.

The format of this class is not for the weak. The class runs for three hours with a two week break in between groups so couples can practice their new skills.

Prior to the class start date, couples will meet privately with Dr. Amy to discuss the current strengths and weaknesses in your relationship. This way, she’ll make sure to address your personal concerns during the group boot camp classes.

Week 1: Resistance Training

Frustration, resentment, exhaustion, and disappointment have reached the point where you’re ready to throw in the towel. Now is the time to put the pedal to the medal – it’s do or die. Identifying your role in your marital problems, putting it all out on the table, being honest about what you are willing to do are the focus of this class.

At the end of the training session, couples will receive exercises to work on for the two weeks in between the next class.

Week 2: Power Sets

You’ve had two weeks to work on your exercises. Couples will report their progress as well as the obstacles they ran into. Each couple will have the opportunity to choose at least one of the pitfalls they ran into and work this out during class.

At the end of the training session, couples will schedule an appointment to meet privately with Dr. Amy where they’ll receive individualized exercises to work on for the two weeks in between the next class.

Week 3: Going for the Gold

During this class, couples will report on whether or not they’re in it for the long haul, need more time to decide, or if they are considering moving on. Each couple will have the opportunity to discuss how they came about their decision, what they will continue to work on individually and as a couple.

At the end of the training session, couples will have a final coaching session with Dr.
